12/20/2005 Got invited to do show at the Larimer Lounge on Monday Dec. 5 so we strapped on our rock-star undies and headed on down to the show. It was a night of disaster and infamy. This was Gordon's first show with his spankin' new Epiphone Casino and we managed to get in 4 pretty decent songs before them dang strings just started bustin'. Two broken strings over three songs forced us to cut the set short and leave out some of our best material. Luckily Gordon had his Kay Kraftsman as a back-up and the old Kay got to experience it's first live action with Jack Sprat. And the old Kay was a total trooper and allowed us to stumble through the remainder of the set. 11/9/2005 The Jack Sprat house party was loud and the generous supply of multicolored ear plugs was quite popular. Although some audience members might have been overwhelmed by the sonic onslaught within the 200 square foot room, no neighbors complained and that was the important thing. Susan couldn't make the Toad show, so it was up to Mr. One-man-road-show (Gordon) to represent the band. Somehow the Toad folks forgot that they had booked us anyway, but Gordon managed to squeeze in about 8 songs between two other bands (Alien Borders and The Muffin Men) that had also been booked. Going solo and acoustic proved to be a little of a struggle for the lonely axe man, but he felt better after an attractive young dodge-ball woman told him that she liked the set - but it looked like he needed a band. Rock posing must look really really bad without a band. 10/6/2005 OK, so our Sept. 28 Pink E's show got canceled, but we've rescheduled for Thursday December 8 (9:30 slot). We've also scheduled a show at the Toad Tavern in Littleton on Tuesday November 8. For this show we're going on at 8:00 so make sure you snarf down your din-din and head on down. This is open-mic night at the Toad so be ready for anything. In case you haven't noticed, Jack Sprat's Director of Information Overload has added some new MP3s to the site. Anyone familiar with Gordon's previous life as a wandering caterwaller will recognize a few mouldy oldies. And thanks to everyone for their support. We're now averaging 2 hits per month and are close to our target of 3. And a big big thanks to Google, Yahoo!, ODP and all the other search engines out there that still haven't included us in their directories. 9/20/2005 Looks like our next show will be next Wed (9/28/2005) at Pink E's in Westminster. We will go on at 9:30. Jack Sprat was informed that the show will be recorded and taped for any likely future endeavors - whatever those might be. It would be really cool if some die-hard JS fans showed up and we'll guarantee one of our best shows ever. Might even sneak two new songs into our set - Mutton and Little Billy - to fortify our position as the 31,758th greatest rock band ever. Hope to see you there. 5/19/2005 We played Cricket on the Hill last Thursday with these guys that called themselves Jackleg , which, I guess, are based somewhere out in the boonies of Montana. They played classic crunchy songs and put on a good rock show. Thankfully a couple of our friends showed up and the Jackleg folks stuck around or we would have been playing to a bunch of empty tables and the Cricket staff. We expanded our set to include Poodle and Blue Dart and, in general, things went pretty well. Some band members thought that the songs were a little fast, but we hung in there, and Susan's drumming was the highlight for everyone. Thanks again to everyone and the Cricket people. Hopefully, some day we'll bring in a crowd of beer guzzling fans and make our hosts happy. 5/21/05 Our Next show is at the Cricket on the Hill on Thursday June 16. We're hoping a lot of our fans will show up 'cuz it looks like a good night of rock and phunk and lots of customers will make the Cricket people really really happy. We're working on a few new songs (Mutton, Poodle, and, maybe, Blue Dart), and might try one or two of these at the Cricket show - another great reason to show up. 4/8/05 Played the Cricket on the Hill last night. Opened up for two really good bands - Cars & Trucks and The Craig Maierhofer Band. Cars & Trucks had a kick-ass country flavored instrumental ditty that had me whoopin' and hollerin' all through the song. The Craig Maierhofer Band was tight and punchy with nice vox work from Craig and the drummer. And their guitarist was ripping up some sweet riffs. It's nice to hear a solid band with a good appreciation for melodies. On the other hand, our set was all over the place. Susan was so wild during Jack What and Tomato that drum sticks were flying all over the stage. I was laying low to avoid injury. Then some nimrod was so busy playing guitar- god that he forgot where Bunny Huntin' was supposed to end. Anyway the Cricket people were really nice to us and we generally enjoyed the evening. 4/1/05 Thanks to our friends Three Miles West , we had a great time playing at the Oriental Theatre on St. Patty's Day. It was a great place to play and there was lots and lots of great music that night. |
